Sometime soon, I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna finally get a new game console. I'm not getting a DS nor PSP, because I don't really like handhelds. (Why do you suppose I have a GB/C/A emulator on my PC? 1024x768 resolution and better speakers, that's why.) And everything out on the PS3 is also out for the Xbox 360, except for MGS4, but I don't really care about Metal Gear.
So that just leaves me with the Wii and the 360. For a long time, I was planning to get a Wii. This way, I can play (new) Nintendo games, since one can't really play a Zelda game on a Playstation, unless if it's a hax. Also, it's cheaper, and you can play GC games on it, which is a plus, since I never got a GC. And let's not forget the Virtual Console.
Now . . . the games. What, for the Wii, would I want? Well . . . there's Mario games, Zelda games, Metroid, and . . . . . . . . Tales of Symphonia, you know how I seem to freakishly care more about Tales games than most Square-Enix games. However, I don't really care about Smash Bros. so . . . . . . . and anything on the VC I can just download for my PC emulators. (Unless if I already have.) Uh . . . . yeah, looks like the Wii's library is just like the one for the GC; SMALL!
Now, the 360 . . . it has high-def support. My parents have a high-def tv. (720p. I didn't even want one, but they got one anyways.) It supports 5.1 audio, which I have, it's a little pricier than the Wii, but not my much right now. Xbox Live does have a market for downloading games, including classic games. (Symphony of the Night? On my 'box? Excellent.) And . . . much like with the original Xbox, it's got a built-in hard drive . . . if you get the model that has that. And lastly, all of my original Xbox games should work on a 360.
And the games . . . NOT HALO 3, GOD DAMN YOU! Gears of War, I would definitely at least try out, though. As well as Lost Odyssey, Devil May Cry 4, Tales of Vesperia, (surprised?) and Bioshock. Only downside is, I've heard the 360 has a tendency to breakdown, "Red Ring of Death" is a phrase I've heard a lot. Well, I've heard Microsoft extended the warranty for 360s recently, and the hardware in newer 360s is supposedly more reliable, so . . .
I'm sorry, Nintendo, but you really lost me after the N64/PS1 era. I'm getting an Xbox 360. Not to play on Live, mind you, but because . . . there's actually games for the 360 I want. If I got a Wii, I'd probably be stuck playing Paper Mario, Twilight Princess, and TOS forever. And even if 360s are faulty, I'll take my chances. Of course, it's still going to be a while before I can get a 360, but the time will come. Oh yes, it will come.
Speaking of Tales,
On my last entry, I wrote a slapdash fanfic about TOL. Did you know I was considering writing a Tales of the Abyss 'fic? Even though that game's story is practically perfect, I was curious about one thing; what did Asch do before the events of the game? You never really learn very much about his past. I was considering writing a 'fic about Asch, explaining how he became a God-General, and why he's the arrogant prick that he is in the games. I didn't write it, though. You see, TOTA has a very complex setting, with very complex characters, and very complex happenings. I would have to play through the game several times, taking a bunch of notes, before I could write something on par with the writing caliber of the game. It's just beyond my writing ability, at this moment in time. Oh well. Namco/Bandai is free to do another game in TOTA's world in the mean time; they already did with Symphonia. Yeah, the Wii has the TOS sequel, but 360 has Vesperia . . .
Yeah, I know Eternia and Legendia let me down, but Phantasia and The Abyss were simply magical in their execution, and TOL's story was one step below godliness. I can't help myself!
P.S. Did you know some of the vocals in TOTA were delivered by a couple of dub actors I know by name? Luke=Yuri Lowenthal, (does he always play emotionally-disturbed youths? I sense typecasting. Oh wait, he was Leo in Scrapped Princess, and Simon in Gurren Lagaan, I wouldn't call them disturbed.) Jade=Kirk Thorton, (who is dead-on as Jade.) Guy=Johnny Yong Bosch, (Yay, Johnny!) Van=Michael McConnohie, (Does he always play figures of authority? I sense more typecasting.) and Dist=Liam O'Brien, who is devilishly delightful in this role. I can't recognize any of the other voices though. Wait! I've read Mieu is played by Sandy Fox, but she was better as a Tachikoma in GITS. I think. Mieu miiiiiieuuuuu! (Mieu sucks compared to Kero-chan and Mokona.)
