Just a quick link

Does anyone remember the original NES version of River City Ransom? I do. I played it . . . on my NES emulator, years after I gave away my actual NES . . . but that's not important!

I found a Touhou that crosses over RCR . . . with Cheeruno. Boogey down!

Oh yes, also, I will say this. All the profiles I'll get under my true name will happen . . . after the second week of September, but before the start of October, barring no unforeseen bad things happen. I swear, this will be the last I say of it before I go public (in a sense.)

Awesomeness Withdrawal, and why it sucks

Look here.

Now, I think this is a slight exaggeration. I've only had two times in my life that I would describe as truly wonderful, and neither of them were brought about by works of fiction. However, I have had AW a few times. I can't recall every instance of this, but here's a few examples.

-When FX stopped airing reruns of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I had AW. I got over it, but not for a while.

-When I finished playing Chrono Trigger for the first time from start to finish, I had AW. I got over it . . . by simply playing the game again.

-When I finished the SNES (or should I say Super Famicom?) version of Tales of Phantasia, I had AW. I got over it, but it was months before I found another game that was an experience as complete as that one.

-When I finished my second playthrough of Fallout 3, I got AW. I got over it . . . but only when Fallout: New Vegas came out.

-When I finished Eureka Seven, I got AW. I'm still suffering from withdrawal on this one, since I've yet to find a Japanese animation as good as E7.

-When Rescue Me ends later this year, I'm predicting another case of AW. Same goes for the manga version of Fullmetal Alchemist.

However, I've got a new case of AW, one that is badly affecting me. And you know what's funny? It's stemming from only the first half of something!

"Wait, first half of something? You don't mean . . ."

(thunder crack)

"Hahahahahahahaha!"

Oh yes, Umineko fever is driving me nuts. Except for Rescue Me, Futurama, and FMA, nothing, NOTHING I have experienced since discovering Umineko matches up. (And those are all series I discovered before Umineko.) 07's own Higurashi doesn't match up, Little Busters doesn't match up, all the anime I've tried to watch don't match up, all the games I've tried since then don't match up, all the fanfics I've read (including my own) don't match up . . . nothing does!

Even before I finished EP4, I was addicted. Do you know what I started every morning with?

Happy Maria.

I've been downloading fanart of Umineko. Most of my fanart stems from either Touhou (surprised?) or Type-Moon, but now? There's a good chunk of Umineko fanarts on my hard drive now. What's my most recent Type-Moon fanfic about? A Cookie Cutter Fic wherein Type-Moon characters are apparently Umineko characters. (Oh, but you still haven't learned why that is yet, ihihihi!) I just wrote Battler's laugh! And when I finish the canon, I intend to check out Umineko fanfiction!

Oh, and here's something else. One of my English textbooks from college contained works in the public domain, including The Divine Comedy. Guess who started reading that again? And not just the segments I was assigned during class?

Oh yeah, I also found a "Which Umineko character are you?" poll. I tried it. It said I was most like Ange. The description reads: "Somehow you feel distant from the current society, and would like to close up in your own small world - or rather, you just can't find anybody to open up to. You can still manage other people, but your social skills need some practicing. Even though you don't believe in magic, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist."

I will admit, Ange is very, very similar to how I used to be in my early teen years, save for the suicidal part, thankfully. Some of her traits are still a part of me. (I can open up to people, it's just I often don't trust them enough.) However, during my late teen years, I was more like Kanon. Now . . . not quite as much. When I did that, I thought I was gonna get Battler, seeing as how most people I know believe the exact opposite of things I believe, but I guess not.

But it says 33 percent of the pollsters also got Ange. Maybe . . . she's just the easiest one to get? I took a "Which Fate character are you?" quiz, got Tohsaka . . . and so did half of Beast's Lair. Then again, in my Type-Moon fics, I find Tohsaka the easiest character to write . . . am I a male version of her?

But can you see how badly I want to continue Umineko!? I just checked Witch-Hunt . . . still no update! I'm going crazy!

BEATRIIIIIIIIIIICE!

Preparing for the future

I said I was going to make Youtube videos. Part of this is to get more exposure . . . not that kind of exposure! I can make trailers for my ebooks, but using a Youtube account for only that would be limited.

I will make vlogs too. In fact, there are some things I've been wanting to tell the internet for the longest time, but I refused, because text only (i.e. what I'm doing right now) could not fully convey my truest feelings. I think I said at one point in this blog's history that I am an aspiring actor. If not . . . well, you'll see that first-hand later this year.

I can even make vlogs of "classic" moments of this blog. You know you want me to.

But another reason is, well, this is a longshot, but if I get popular enough, I could get sponsored on Youtube, and I could make cash from vlogs, not just ebook sales and Google ads on the textual blog. Of course, I can't make that happen; you have to. I already know I can produce videos of me ranting about things I care about, but the people have to view, like, and subscribe to me enough times for that to happen.

As for Facebook and Twitter, well, I know people in the real world who use these. They'll walk me through them. I don't think you can make cash on those sites, but I'll still utilize them.

Oh! Get this! I don't normally follow Tweets, but guess what I discovered not too long ago; you don't have to use your real name on Twitter. Naturally, this leads to people signing up as a fictional character, and tweeting in-character.

Oh yes, it's true. (Please don't request me to do Rachel Alucard or Kokonoe Tweets. Besides, someone else is probably already doing that.)

According to tvtropes, there are Tweets by The Doctor, The Joker, Dumbledore, Strong Bad, Madoka characters, GlaDOS, and many others. In fact, I even punched in Bernkastel, and found a Twitter account for her! . . . that was entirely in Japanese.

However, it will be some time before I do these things. All these instances of me joining other networking sites won't happen until sometime in September, since my first ebook won't go live until early October. In the meantime, I can create a few videos before then, so that way, any of you interested in seeing me in video format will have more than just an intro video to look forward to.

Next time on this blog (while I'm still blissfully anonymous), I discuss a Trope that I haven't yet, and why it's making me suffer. And also, I won't be talking about this new path of mine, at least until the time is right. So look forward to usual ramblings.

Trolls Trolling Trolls

A Touhou fanfiction was removed from FF.net not too long ago, as well as its author becoming banned, presumably for life.

You know how I started the Hall of Shame segment on Help Us, Professor Kokonoe, to get back at the haters? Well guess what? I got someone else to add to the Hall of Shame, but this time, I'm doing it as myself, as xm0123, not as Koko. No getting into character for this one; this is allllllllll me!

There was an author by the name of "eagerbeaver" on FF.net. Beaver's alias ended with numbers, so it was actually like "eagerbeaver678" or something. This beaver's profile was written mostly in chatspeak. Beaver had one fanfiction to his/her/its name: "Justin' Gensokyo." It was, I believe, 4 chapters in length, and garnered about 20 reviews before it was taken down. (Wait, that's as many reviews as Mentor and Protege currently holds! You know, negative publicity may not be that good after all . . . for Beaver, not me.)

Justin' Gensokyo was a cliched "OC falls into Gensokyo!" plot. However, the OC wasn't the author, or just any random person. You wanna know who was the main star? You really, really, really wanna know? Are ya desperate to find out? Here's who the protag was:

Justin Bieber.

Side note: I do not like Justin Bieber as a musician. Todd in the Shadows has shown me enough JB for a while. However, I do not hate JB, for he is, as far as I know, not a horrible person. If we met, we would probably get along. And if he is serious as a musical artist, he will improve over time. Okay, enough of that.

Yes, eager beaver wrote a fanfic about Bieber. However, there's a rule on FF.net; you can't use real people who are still alive in your fics. First of all, there is the possibility of a libel suit. Second of all, THAT'S FUCKING RETARDED!!!!!!! Thirdly . . . I already made my point.

Naturally, this drew attention from reviewers. Some people seemed to like Justin in Gensokyo . . . . but there are people on FF.net who like anything, no matter how shitty, depraved, or bizarre it is. Some of the reviewers offered criticism. Some of them just said, "Troll fic. We read My immortal, dumbass; don't bring that shit into Touhou." One person even said, "I love how only three of the eight (at the time) reviews realize it's a troll."

The best review was by none other than Willie G.R. I kid you not. His offered critiques without sounding mean-spirited. He said drop the chatspeak, using real people is a violation of FF.net rules, tons of people hate JB, your chapters have little to no content, there's no way Sanae would recognize Bieber, even as the media junkie she was outside of Gensokyo. (True man. The Moriya, in my fanfic, moved to Gensokyo in January 2005, before JB was a superstar. HA!) Also, he pointed out that there was a scene when JB first landed in Gensokyo, that he fainted . . . yet had a smile on his face. Willie said that is like multiplying 0 times 0, and trying to get 10. I laughed. Also, in the fanfic, Reimu said JB was "cute." I find it highly ironic that Reimu, she herself one of the most adorable video game characters of all time, would find the mere (by comparison) JB cute. Shouldn't her standards for cuteness be much higher? Or am I breaking logic again?

However, it's gone; the reviews, the profile, the fic, everything. This blog entry may be the only shrine to its existence, its Hall of Shame if you will. I myself tried to read Justin' Gensokyo. I couldn't make it past the author's note of the first chapter. Shitty writing to me is like . . . like an anti-magic field to a witch. If it's too strong, I shun it.

Now, my thoughts? Well, I'm in an Umineko mood right now, so allow me to use the Blue Truth.

Eagerbeaver was a male troll pretending to be a stereotypical fifteen year old fangirl. Touhou is a predominantly male fanbase, while Justin Bieber commands a predominantly female fanbase. Eagerbeaver made a fanfiction for an obscure game series outside of Japan, wrote like a fangirl, and sought to ridicule Bieber and his fans to Touhou fans. He did not realize that he broke a fundamental rule of Fanfiction dot net, and was IP banned for life.

And even if you hate Bieber, or even if you think he's brilliant, there is one eternal truth.

Eagerbeaver is an idiot.

Why all the sudden Umineko references? The title, the text color, and all that? Because I'm still waiting for the translation to finish. What can I do to pass the time . . .

The Sound of Touhou Music

The hills are alive with two more remixes, one of which is yet another remix of Murasa's stage theme.

Sooooo Fucking metal.

Also a remix of Kanako's theme. You are not ready.

Oh, get this! It would seem my associate Heraklinios started a blogspot . . . and thanked me for inspiring him in his FF.net profile.

This scares me. I haven't even started my proper career yet, and already people are saying I inspired them! That's not a bad thing, mind you, (I liked how you described fanfiction, by the way) but I just wasn't expecting such a thing just yet.

And speaking of fanfiction, Part 3 of Gensokyan Backstories is now available! See why Youmu is the opposite of Yuyuko in terms of popularity!

But now, let's talk about my new Touhou fanfic series. Unlike the others, this one isn't connected to what I call Touhou Monogatari. It may reference it at times, but it will be standalone. All of the chapters (oh yes, I've already started part 2) are standalone. It will be, what you could call, a series of omake. Hey, I can say omake; it's based off a Japanese property. All of it will be humorous. Even if you see a serious scene, you will be laughing.

The first chapter, which should go live either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, is sparked from an idea I got from canon, of all places. It focuses on a character I haven't written that much about. And even though it is mostly funny, it will also make you think about what sparked the idea for this fic, too.

The second chapter . . . I don't wanna give away too much, but expect references to Higurashi, A Children's Card Game Yu-Gi-Oh, and even an anime I know virtually nothing about! It will be fun.

However, beyond that, I wanna wait until the release of the full version of Ten Desires before I write anymore Touhou fanfiction. It may give me more ideas, after all. Oh, I'm still writing the sequel to Eternal Blossom, but that's taking time.

In-between all of this, you know what else I've been doing? Sampling more Umineko music from Episodes 5 through 8 off of youtube. However, I feel as though I'm being taunted. I keep listening to all of this beautiful music, and yet, I can't play the actual game without a full English translation. It's like . . . Beatrice, Bernkastel, Lambda, and all the other witches are in their otherworldly tea party room, watching me, doing their "hahahahahahahaha!" laugh, seeing me squirm as I think, "Oh! Such grandiose music! Such beauteous compositions! If only I had Chiru to play, so that I could understand the context behind the songs!"

I almost want to say it's all useless, but if I say that one more time, I fear I'll get backlash for quoting Umineko too much. Oh well. Here's hoping Touhou Omake is well-received.

Can't stop!

More Touhou remixes inbound! In fact, I have remixes of two songs I just covered in the last post! Here goes:

Because Princess Inada Is Scolding Me redone to sound like Mario music.

Flandre's theme as trippy techno.

Satori's theme completely unrecognizable as  . . . Guilty Gear music!

Murasa's stage theme as . . . more Guilty Gear music!

The next part of Gensokyan Backstories should be finished soon. Expect an upload later in the week.

EDIT: I have a Touhou doujin to recommend.

The Scarlet Kin by Strange Chameleon. It is wonderful. And there's going to be a sequel!

But yes, even though I am writing original content now, I am finding more time to write Touhou fanfiction all of a sudden. Aside from Gensokyan Backstories, I started something else Touhou-related earlier today. You will see it sometime in the future.

Needz moar Gensoukyou

Geeze, how long have I gone without talking about Touhou!?!?!?!

Too long, in fact.

So to kick off, ever heard of Touhou Mother? it's an RPGMaker game that is a crossover between the Mother games and the Touhou games. Considering how weird both of those series are, it works.

Okay, I'll admit, I haven't actually played it nor its (currently unfinished) sequel, but I have been watching these. It's how I know. I love seeing how it remixes Touhou music, as well as Mother music, in new ways.

Oh, but that's not all!

The all-English Touhou Visual novel, Easern Starlight Romance, has seen a new release! Well, it's still not finished yet. But the graphics have been updated, and it has more music! More Touhou remixes, you could say. New demo is here.

New stuff is good. It gets more dramatic later on. I like the portraits of the characters that didn't have a portrait in the first demo. It is, for all intents and purposes, one of the best Touhou fanworks I have seen. There's even a bad end you can get that is tragic as get out, yet strongly executed at the same time.

Best new thing about ESR? A remix of the extra boss theme from Great Fairy War. It made me grin like a maniac.

And where would I be without linking Touhou remixes to youtube!?
We start with a remix of the most remixed song of all time: Flandre being cute!

And also, Stage 3 Subterranean Animism. Sounds like something from Okami.

And now a remix of . . . wasn't this from Mountain of Faith originally? Whatever, it's good.

And lastly, Meiling circa the 1920s.

And before I forget, my fanfiction.

Yeah, we all know now that I'm producing ebooks for money. I write new material for my ebooks every day. Yet sometimes, I still find time to write fanfiction. I still have three active series, after all.

My next released fanfic will most likely be part three of Gensokyan Backstories, the one about Youmu. I've got a better idea of what the next chapters will be about.

GB 4: SECRET! (I have written bits of this already)

GB 5: Someone from the Scarlet Mansion. (I have decided exactly who, but I won't say, beyond that it's someone from the SDM.)

GB 6: Templates like this are forbidden. (AKA, you're not supposed to know just yet. The character is decided, though.)

As for the followup to Eternal Blossom, yeah, I've been writing more of that, also. When I finish it, more things will make sense. Maybe. Maybe.

Last Word: The retail release for Ten Desires should be next month. I am still anxious to see the new characters and music.

My ambition

If you have read the latest chapter of Endless Number of Possibilities, then you know what I plan to do with my life.

I discovered a website called SmashWords. It's a place where you can publish electronic books for money. There are some guidelines, (No fanfiction, no child porn,) but you can publish nearly anything, so long as you wrote it. Some authors have made a living through self-publishing. I intend to also.

However, Smashwords only pays out every quarter of the year. We're currently in the third quarter of the year and . . . I have nothing to publish! I will by next October, for sure, so then, I will become self-employed.

However, the catch with SmashWords is they don't market your books; you have to. To do this, I cannot remain anonymous by the time I publish. I will show my face and my true name. I will get a Facebook and a Twitter. And yes, I will even make Youtube videos. I'll also have a new blog, maybe a Blogspot, maybe not, I'm not sure, but this current blog will cease updating by the end of this year.

Now, know that I'll still write fanfiction, just not as much. I'm gonna finish my current story arc, and maybe write some more Touhou fics, but . . . the way of the future for me is original works I hope to live off of. This is no joke, by the way; this is my dream. I feared having to go through agents and publishers to get my original works published, but now . . . self-publishing ebooks just may be what makes me.

I will return to my usual blogging material later.

P.S. even when I start anew, I'll still keep blogging about my usual stuff; I just won't be anonymous anymore.
