Got back from disc one of Eureka Seven. It's so beautiful. Everything is so beautifully constructed. The music is great; it's an eclectic mix of rock, techno, generic background music, and orchestras. I love it. I love the voices. I love the characters.
It's like I'm falling in love all over again!
Even though I've already seen these episodes before, I haven't watched any E7 in about a year; certainly not on DVD. Oh, precious DVDs.
And another thing; the humor. Oh, poor Renton, I just feel so bad for him! I absolutely love the scene in episode 5 when he's by himself after the, erm, incident that occurred earlier in the episode. He says something to this effect:
"Whoever said that your first love, is sweet as well as sour, was a big, fat liar. All it is is bitter."
And then Talho, who happened to listen in, chimes in in an overdramatic tone:
"Oh, is this a trial from God because I fell in love with an angel? This bit of down that floats away if I chase it, weighs heavily upon my heart."
Then Renton notices she was listening. She laughs forever, walking through the halls, with Renton pleading, "You're not gonna tell them about my sweet little romance, are you?" And she says, in mockery, "Love is a lie! All it is is bitter!" and goes back to laughing. Renton swears he'll do anything. Then she says, "Oh? You'll do anything?" Oh God, I haven't laughed like that in a long time.
One little note, in English, Talho is portrayed by Kate Higgins, best known as the voice of Sakura (Not that Sakura. Sorry.) Haruno from Naruto. Talho sounds almost exactly like the ninja girl, yet sounds so much better here as Holland's girl. I'd say this is the best performance I've ever heard from her.
We're not gonna get to new (for me) episodes of E7 until I hit disc four, so I'm just retreading familiar territory right now. However, there is something you should know:
I love Eureka Seven. I have said on more than one occasion that it is my favorite action cartoon series of all time. (Not just anime, all animated tv series.) However, I have yet to see the entire series. I will endeavor to do so. But I'm enjoying it so much. Boys, Girls, Martians, E7 may be my favorite anime series of all time. Yes, there is a possibility that I may enjoy this even more than Motherfucking Death Note. Whether that is true or not, that remains to be seen.
Just one last thing. Now that I've been able to see E7 on DVD with unmatched picture quality, there is one thing Renton believes that I now also believe: Eureka=teh cuteness.
Oh come on! She's moderately cute at best! It's not like I'm gonna do that thing where I say her name in big bold print! Although, she is my second-favorite character in the series . . .
LATE EDIT: Make that third-favorite, for reasons that will make sense once I describe my favorite episode in the series.
