Guess what came in the mail earlier today? Eight volumes of Eureka Seven. I haven't seen any episodes yet, but I did "test-drive" the first five minutes of the first episode.
Let me say this; watching an anime on DVD is nothing like watching it on tv, over the internet, or via downloaded fansub. The picture quality pales compared to the DVD. And E7 happens to be one of the best-looking animated series I've ever seen; certainly the best I've seen from studio BONES.
You wanna know how good the picture quality was?
(In Renton's voice) "Oh my gosh! The fluidity of the mecha fights! The colors! The background art! And Eureka's face! It's all so . . . beautiful! *faints*"
I swear to you right now; if you wanna enjoy anime to its fullest potential, you gotta get the (legit) DVDs. The show is just absolutely gorgeous! Yeah, suck it, Code Geass!
The sound quality is much improved, also. Even though it's only in stereo, not in surround, it sounds much cleaner. And you know what that means . . .
"Better sounding music?"
Yeah, and . . .
"You can hear Holland's voice more clearly?"
Exactly!
Also, unlike in the broadcasts, the opening and ending songs come with translated lyrics, and the original lyrics printed in Romanji! If you know how to accentuate Japanese words, you can sing along to the songs! Hooraaaaaaaaaaay!
Oh, uh, as for the title, um, remember when I did my FF7 playthrough, all of the titles were a play on religious messages? ("Deliver us from Hojo.") I got another thing going on; E7 makes references to pop music from the Sixties. The Beatles got really popular back in the Sixties. Every title will have Beatles lyrics in it.
What!? I like the Fab Four! Don't judge me!
P.S. E7 is like a totally different show on DVD. The picture quality is that much better.
