Almost had me

So, you know what I've been doing now, aside from writing more Touhou fanfic? Reading more of my favorite Eva fanfic of all time, Nobody Dies. I will admit, some of the pop culture references are tacked-on, (though I'm guilty of that as well; Hong Meiling quoting Kenshiro, anyone?) and there are some syntax errors with the spelling and grammar, but by Adam, when it's running on all cylinders, it delivers.

But you should get a load of the tvtropes page for Nobody Dies; it's really comprehensive! A comprehensive entry for a fanfic, I know, and it's not the first time they did that for an Eva fanfic either.

But what does the title of this entry refer to? Well, guess what? Nobody Dies has spawned fan input. There are Youtube vids of people quoting the Angels, as well as fanart, and even a forum wherein Rei Ayanami TehRei interacts with forumers. But getting back to my title, check this pic out. Isn't that sweet of Yui, volunteering as a crossing guard at a school? Oh look, Little Asuka-chan is really cute! I had no idea she was so kawaii as a child!

Au contraire, my faithful associate. The (current) Asuka gamble says that if I find the Rebuild of Eva version of Asuka to be cute, I would then buy merch. It doesn't read, "If I find a fanficcer's interpretation of Asuka to be cute", so you see, you almost had me, but not quite.

Oh, but I'm not done yet. Look at what I already described in my own Eva fanfic; Asuka and Rei fighting over Shinji. It looks almost exactly like the manga! That's amazing!





Soooooooooo~ when's Rebuild 2.22 coming to America?

Oh by the way, you know that doujin, RE-TAKE? I forgot to talk about it. It was good, but not great; certainly not on the same level as Nobody Dies, but I did like the ending.

You weren't even shipping them 'til you read the volume of the manga that introduced her, you fucking fanboy! Oh, and congrats on telling everyone at FF.net about your Shinji/Asuka whoring when you wrote the making of Ask Rachel Alucard, 'Oh, I'm talking about a vampire girl from a completely unrelated franchise; SHINJI/ASUKA O T P B CUZ THEIR KAWAII!!!!!!!' GAWD, you are as bad as everyone else when it comes to fictional romances; you're just more selective about it.

Oh, and was the hooking up of Shinji and Asuka in Nobody Dies a deciding factor in declaring it one of your top five favorite fanfics of all time? Gawd, you're so predictable!"

Okay, I know, I don't 'ship' that often, but when I do, it's always because of The Almighty Narrative. If a work of art is more enjoyable if x dates y instead of z, I will do it. I never like to see a 'ship' that doesn't serve The Almighty Narrative unless if it's for lulz. (ex. most yaoi pairings.) Now I'm sure Nobody Dies would be just as awesome if Shinji courted someone else, but I have noticed a tendency that most of the good Eva fics tend to have Shinji/Asuka in it, and when I wrote my own fanfic, it made the most sense for Shinji to take Asuka. So there.
