Well now, it would seem Neon Genesis Evangelion deserves to have a Syndrome named after it. However, I didn't see anything major that existed just to screw with the audience for quite a while. I was beginning to think that this was just another mecha series, albeit one with excellent animation during the fight sequences.
Then I saw episode number 16. Yeah, I had a definite WTF moment. Like I was playing Xenosaga again. Or the last sequence of Metal Gear Solid 2 again.
However, I remain undeterred. I feel like watching this a little more. Even if I don't like it as much as Eureka 7, I think after seeing the first episode of FLCL, I can probably handle whatever more weirdness Eva has in store for me. Hey, it's free if I keep watching it on the internet, and I'm on vacation; I deserve to keep up with all these hep cats who seem to know everything about the anime left and right.
Now for something amusing. I found an old Eva discussion on a messageboard not too long ago. People were, you guessed it, making fun of Shinji. I remember someone jokingly said, "Yeah, if I was in Shinji's position, I wouldn't be depressed at all! I mean, I pilot a giant robot for fuck's sake! How many kids get to do that!? And every night, I get Elle. Aye. Eye. Dee. With Misato and Asuka like it's The Second Impact all over again! Nevermind the fact that I face life and death every time an Angel shows up! And nevermind the fact that my dad is closer to some emotionless blue-haired chick than me, his own son!" The poster was, in a sarcastic manner, illustrating why poor Shinji-kun is usually in the dumps. But when I read the part about getting Elle. Aye. Eye. Dee. With Misato and Asuka, I LOL'd. Yes, I LOL'd. A lot. I was practically ROTF.
