I love The Tick.
Easily one of the funniest cartoon series I've ever seen, The Tick is one of the few American cartoon series I've seen that is both kid-friendly and something I still enjoy even today. I watched this on tv back when I was a kid, and I loved it. I watch it on youtube today on occasion, and I still love it. The Tick is enjoyable to kids, teens, and adults.
Why? Because it's one of the greatest send-ups of superheroes and supervillains ever. The Tick is a complete idiot who's pathologically obsessed with doing good, and is "Nigh Invulnerable." His sidekick Arthur has more common sense, but is much more cowardly. Oddly enough, the two of them are actually more competent than the other superheroes of "The City." The other heroes are all spoofs of famous comic book protagonists, and every one of them cracks me up. And the supervillains are equally inept, including the Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs At Midnight.
And also, there are some jokes I get now that I didn't as a kid. For example, only recently have I realized that Arthur sounds a lot like Matthew Broderick. And that Die Fliedermaus, the Batman parody, sounds like Adam West. (Wow! I didn't know Cam Clarke could do a convincing impression of Adam We!) And only now do I get that Sewer Urchin is a parody of both Aquaman and Dustin Hoffman's character from Rainman. This only adds to the rewatch value, especially to me after all these years.
I'm even a fan of the short-lived live-action series. ("This vending machine is now my bitch.") Although in the long run, I like the animated series the most. So if you've never seen the Tick, do so. If I of all people recommend it, that's gotta account for something.
And remember, HONK IF YOU CRAVE JUSTICE!!!!! (Man, I swear, if the internet was as widespread back in the mid 90's like it is now, that would be an internet meme, no doubt about it.)
