Well now, I've seen all of Chobits. Wow. That was a huge change in tone, once we learned more about Hideki's teacher. Everything after that is so serious, but somehow, it works. The backstories were touching.
However, Chobits isn't a favorite series of mine. It's funny, but not incredibly funny. It's romantic, but not extremely romantic. Hideki matures throughout the series, but he's the only great character, though. The animation wasn't great. Neither was the music. The ending wasn't great. Nothing like the ending of Death Note, that's for certain.
Of course, it's possible that the Chobits anime is inferior to the Chobits manga. Then again, it may not be all that great, either. Chobits isn't bad. It's not stupid like many other romance series, and it does raise questions about mechanical people, and what role would they play in society, and that love between a human and a robot is apparently possible, but it wasn't that great, though. Oh well. As least the dub sounded great.
Although I still would've chosen Chitose over the others. Her hair is just lovely, and even her voice is pretty! Hideki doesn't know what he's missing! Or so I think.
Personally, I can't see myself loving a robot. Maybe that's why I don't think Chii is more than Mildly Cute. If we ever have human-esque robots in our lives, and you wanna snuggle with one, I won't stop you. But I can't see myself loving one. I could see myself being charmed by a robot girl, though, but not in love. By the way, just because Sumomo is tiny, has pink hair, and an extremely high-pitched voice doesn't automatically mean she's cute. Because she's not. Oh, Kotoko also appears in Tsubasa in an alternate-reality guise.
Chobits Final Score: 7 out of 10. Interesting take on a romance series, but nothing spectacular. Has some touching scenes later on in the series, though.
