This is an entry meant to attack dub haters. If you don't care about foreign animated film, then move on. But, if you do, or if you're just curious, stick around.
I have a rule when it comes to anime; only watch stuff that has been officially released in America in some capacity. This means I will only watch stuff that has an English dub, or was subtitled professionally. For you see, I don't trust fansubs.
I have a reason for not trusting fansubs. Mainly, because of this, "Hey, let's have him say mutherfucker in this sentence!" "But, does he really something like that in the Japanese script?" "Who cares!? It's not like we do this for a living!" Now, some fansubs are better than others. The fansubbed episodes of Naruto I have seen were better than the fansubbed episodes of Fruits Basket I was forced to endure by my assfuck "friends" from high school, of course that could simply be because Naruto is more watchable than FB. But still, the dialogue did not have a professional feel to it, unlike the English dubbed script. And this, despite the dub's removal of swear words. Holy cow!
However, the dub haters dislike the attitude fans like me have. The dub haters believe fansubs, being outside the influence of "evil" corporate entities, are not only closer to the original script, but are in fact canon. Even if a show or movie is subtitled, not dubbed, but subtitled, they will disregard the official version, simply because his name is spelt Goku, when it's SUPPOSED to be Son Gokou. Retards. And this irates me. This is one reason anime DVDs are not selling as well as they should be. It's not just because it's more convenient, not to mention more free, to download fansubs, but because they think it's BETTER fansubbed! Even if the fansubbers are failed Japanese majors who have never been to Japan and know nothing about Japanese culture beyond what they read in Azumanga Daioh comics. Okay, that's an assumption, but I think there's some truth to that.
Guys, girls, this isn't like the early '90's when every anime was Americanized to the point of not being the same show or movie. That rarely happens, now. Part of it was because of your constant (though rightful) complaints about edits and cuts. Well, the big wigs in charge took heart, and now we can see professionally subtitled versions of hits like Trigun, Cardcaptor Sakura, and of course, Death Note. And let's not forget how much better most dubs sound now. (I am disregarding Code Geass at the moment. Let's just pretend it doesn't exist . . .) It's okay. If you buy it legally, you're getting The Real McCoy. I know. I have Trinity Blood on DVD. Either dubbed or subbed, it feels just like how it should be. As do all my Ghibli movies on DVD.
This also explains why I don't read scanlations of manga volumes. And why I don't trust them either.
