Kurokami has good characterization. And good English voice-acting.
First, there's Keita, the main male protagonist. At first, he's a lot like Squall; he doesn't like to have relationships, for he has abandonment issues. However, he goes through much more believable growth than the FF hero ever did. He is voiced by Jason Griffith. I was surprised to learn that he was the second English dubbed voice of Sonic the Hedgehog. I couldn't even recognize him at first, because he sounds so much better. Now there's an actor who's improved.
Then there's the main female protagonist, Kuro. She's a Mysterious Waif who can be serious one moment, and completely ditzy the next. (Think Vash, but as a girl with burgundy hair. And superhuman strength instead of guns. And not a pacifist.) She has a unique visual design, and I also like her pet Puni Puni; he's like the Kero-chan of the show. She is voiced by Laura Bailey. I'm surprised I've gone this long without praising her; she's one of my favorite actresses of all time. And again, she has churned out another flawless performance.
There's another character named Excel. (No. Not the titular character from Excel Saga. This is a very different Excel.) She's a Deadpan Loli who is very knowledgeable about stuff. She is also mysterious. She is voiced by Stephanie Sheh. Imagine Eureka from Eureka Seven, only much more sarcastic. Once again, she does an excellent job.
Another major character is Yakumo. He's very deferential to certain characters, and is rather easygoing, so long as he isn't in combat. He is voiced by Wil Wheaton. (Yes, you read that right.) Nice to know that he's doing something other than playing a character in GTA: San Andreas, which he was also excellent in.
One of these four is my favorite character, as of having seen the first ten episodes. However, I shall remind you, when I do my next post, my blog will never be the same. Yes, you will never look at me the same way ever again. And you know what? I'm looking forward to telling you my secret.
