Because of the Disgaea franchise, gamers may never need another strategy RPG ever again. Well, I think Disgaea is supreme when it comes to SRPGs.
I've noticed a few more differences between D1 and D2. Perhaps these were "corrected" because of balancing issues. For one, guns can fire diagonally. In D2, they can only shoot in a straight line. This makes bows pretty much worthless, but no matter; I created a scout and intend to make him one of my best characters!
Another thing; the pupil/mentor system. I'm pretty sure this wasn't in D2, probably because of balance issues. With this, you can create a character, and whoever created that character can learn the created character's skill. Let's say I have Etna create a Brawler. If Etna stands next to the Brawler, she can use his skills, if she has the right weapon equipped. If she uses the the skill enough times, she can use that skill without the Brawler nearby. I read somewhere that Flonne is basically useless if you don't have her "mentor" mage characters. So I'm having her learn all kinds of magic abilities right now, effectively turning her into a very strong red mage. Versatility for the win!
I have other things to discuss, but that will come another time.
