Okay, let me start by copying and pasting my thoughts on the demo for Touhou Ten Desires from Beast's Lair.
Favorite character to play as is Marisa. I'm having a hard time getting used to Youmu's focus attack, since it charges up like Cirno's bullet freeze from TH 12.8, yet has limited range. Still, it's nice to see my favorite Touhou character return in a game that isn't a fighter.
The graphics are great. ZUN's drawing of Yuyuko looks just like his last drawings of her, only better. The player characters look cute, but now look skinnier, save for Sanae's hill formation. Personally, I like Youmu's older hairstyle more, but it's good to see she's trying something different. Don't know what to make of the new characters yet. Music . . . uh . . . I'm not feeling it. I like the stage 3 boss theme, though. Easy mode is actually easy for once. Normal mode is tough, but do-able.
I am curious to see how the retail version will turn out. Who know what surprises will be in store? [out before "Enough with the Kogasa jokes!"]
Alright, now that I have that out of the way, I want to actually explain my own Touhou fanficverse some more.
When I write the fight scenes during the Spell Card era, I picture them being more like the scenes from the fighting games. Characters usually can't fire a ton of danmaku in the fighters unless if they are using a spell card. With magic focused in a spell card, it's easier for someone to fire off hundreds of shots. Okay, granted, there are some characters who can fire off a ton of danmaku without a spell card, but generally, only final bosses can do that.
Expect to see quite a few more OCs as Gensokyan Backstories progresses. There were situations in my first chapter where I had to fill in some gaps. Rest assured, I will see to it that they do not outshine the canon characters. It seems as though I only make up relatives to canon characters; hey, at least they have a connection!
The only Touhou projects (lol) I'm working on now are Gensokyan Backstories (which could run for a really long time, seeing as how many characters there are.), and the sequel to Eternal Blossom. The follow-up to EB won't be as dramatic, but it will still be more serious in tone. Also, it will have a new OC by me. Yay.
The backstories I plan will go as follows (tentative):
1: Sanae. Completed.
2: Reisen. A story I've been wanting to write. FOR. E. VER.
3: Youmu. Because she's my favorite. And there's newfound interest in her.
4: A resident of the SDM. Can't say who just yet, though.
5: ??????? I can't tell you just yet.
6: ??????? That would be cheating.
I'm out of things to say.
